While founded in 2003, the roots of Sharp Technology Ventures are tightly integrated with renowned technology innovator, Sharp Corporation and its U.S.-based research and development facility at Sharp Laboratories of America.

Sharp Corporation, is a global leader with a reputation for developing one-of-a-kind consumer and information products. Sharp was among the first electronics companies to establish a research and development laboratory in North America that would be solely focused on understanding the unique market trends, the technology issues, and product demands of consumers in this region. Since 1995, Sharp Laboratories of America has been applying its world-class research capabilities toward the development of new, innovative technologies that are incorporated into Sharp products for both the U.S. and global markets. Its fundamental and applied research has yielded a number of significant technology contributions that have improved the performance and accelerated the global adoption of Sharp's products.  

While nearly all technologies being developed at Sharp Labs contribute to Sharp's one-of-a-kind product strateg, some technologies have implications beyond Sharp Corporation's products or are appropriate for products or markets that fall outside Sharp's business strategy. To leverage such opportunities, Sharp created Sharp Technology Ventures to focus on business development of intellectual property developed at the Lab or with other Sharp entities.

Sharp Technology Ventures' core focus is on the generation of business development opportunities -- including joint product development, technology licensing and company formation -- that will bring more of Sharp's innovative technologies to market. The organization works closely with partners, including OEMs, software and hardware technology companies, government agencies, venture firms, and others, with the result of bringing to market new technologies that have practical application.  

The researchers and scientists who support Sharp Technology Ventures hold several hundred patents, and are adding new patents at a rate of close to 100 per year. Please browse our patents that are available for business development.
